Got a message about supposed "viruses" on my computer

Hi Scarlet, I'm so sorry you've been having this issue. Scary! However, I too, think that's it's a prank. Others I know have had similar experiences and those "in the know" seem to agree that there's a few random pranks going on. The only one I know for sure that's a real virus is one that titles "Hallmark Card." if the administrator doesn't have an answer, you can always contact the SBC? (I'll check on that one and get back), the local police may have a "fraud squad," and I know the FBI has a computer fraud division if you want to go there. Perhaps also check McAfee or Microsoft or whomever is your spyware protection and report it? I hope this helps! Good Luck!

I asked around a few other places as well and people have all told me that this does look like a prank. One of my friends received the same message at the same time as myself. I'm hoping that this person gets banned for this-it happened on another forum but one I rarely go on. lol

I received an email supposedly from my bank and it said that my account had been locked. So I clicked to open the email to see why and a virus immediately started attacking my computer. I am so happy that I have the virus protection that I have, it caught hold of it and cleaned things up real fast.

I should have been more cautious because actually my bank does not email you that kind of info. So please be careful, you never know who is pranking or trying to infect your compter, just for no reason at all.

Been a while since I checked in here but thought I'd drop by and see what's going on.

Anyway, I need a bit of help and I hope that this is the right forum area to post it in but if it's not, please feel free to move it.

I was checking my email earlier and I received a notification that I got a new PM from a site I had long ago registered but hadn't bothered been active, as it didn't interest me much. So out of curiosity, I go check the PM and I got a message saying that my computer has viruses and spyware and a link directing me to where I could check this out. Now I make it a point to run my anti-viral software and other protection services regularly so I'm positive that I don't have any on my comp. I would have ignored this message, thinking that it's nothing more than a prank. But then this person threatens to report me to my ISP if I don't clean up the nonexistent viruses. I did forward this to the administrator right away so I'm hoping that he'll reply back as soon as he can.

Meanwhile, I'm wondering what to do. I think this is a prank and I posted this on Yahoo Answers! So far, everyone has replied that it's a prank and there's no way that person could know the state of my computer. If there are any comp experts out there or those who have comp saavy friends or relatives, I'd appreciate more opinions on this. If the majority say that it's a prank, then I'll take it as such and be grateful that I was smart enough not to click the link in that PM.
