| We are trying to feed the Brady Bunch around here. We have 6 kids that live in the house, and the 2 adults. We go through some food here also. It seems everytime I go to the store the prices are up again. I get where I hate going to the store, I never know what to expect. We have had to make some cutbacks on some of the things we are spoiled to. But recently I heard about some of the cutbacks Obama is making, and luckily social security is not going to be one of them, and I realized how lucky we are. I just knew they were about to say they were cutting that back. 75% of our income comes from ssa. My daughter receives survivors benefits, and my 2 sons are on disability. There is no way at all we could survive on what my husband makes. He works hard, but he is not paid well at all. If they ever do cut back ss, we are in a bad way, for sure. Things are hard enough right now for people. I just hope it doesn't get worse. | |

| Sorry to hear about your husband Flipper. What you and your children must feel. God bless you all.
And yes food is so expensive now. And children do eat alot these days. I have three grands and when they visit we have to stock the kitchen from top to bottom. (lol) And you know life is so funny sometimes. The stuff you don't think about much is what keeps you going in the end. Like with your husbands benefits. It wasn't planned but it works in your best interest. Im happy that you were able to have that for you and your children.

| The children and I receive survivor's benefits because of my late husband's disability and I don't know what we would do without it! It's not the way we wanted to live, but what can you do? At least I know how we will survive. The only thing is, we don't get much in food stamps, and with three children, it's nothing short of amazing how much food we go through in a month! | |

| I hear you! There is no way that I could feed all these people here without them. 6 kids live here, but on weekends and school vacations we have anywhere from 6 to 9 kids here at one time. Plus we have one on the way, and 2 adults. I wish they would give you more FS during the summer vacation months. The kids are eating 3 meals a day at home, plus snack before I had to cut snack on non school days.
Anyway...Social Security.. Called me yesterday to say that they owe me $50, and they are sending it out right away. How cool is that? Unusual, but cool.

| I agree with both of you. And I wish I could get foodstamps. You know some people are embarrased about receiving foodstamps. What is wrong with them? I get embarrased because when I go to checkout I don't have enough cash .Give me some foodstamps. | |

| I have always felt, and still do feel that it is the governments way of being sure no one ever gets the slightest bit ahead. That's why if you get social security you get less food stamps. If someone gifts you $300, you get less food stamps that month. (If you report it, which I would not.)
Whenever you gain a little bit, they take back a little more. That's my 2 cents.

| It took me four years just to get my first check. I am very grateful that I have finally started receiving them. We are suppose to be living in the modern age but, with the high cost of medical care some people are going back to the Dark Ages. A friend of mine is married and on SSI. Her husband has been unemployed for over a year. He went to the free clinic because he knew something was wrong. His blood sugar was over 250. Normal is 100. Good the free clinic helped him but, they wrote out a prescription that cost over 200 dollars. My parents are in what they call the doughnut hole and their meds cost over 400 dollars a month. What really gets to me is that when someone is on Social Security and they get food stamps, their SS check gets smaller. Doesn't make sense to me. | |

| We just got our notice in the mail this morning. I actually knew it already, being an avid FoxNews watcher. I have not bothered to do the math to see if $250 adds up to what we would have received over the span of a year if we had received the raise. I suppose I just don't see the point in doing it, it won't matter one way or another. It isn't going to change.
My letter says that the CPI said there was NO RISE IN THE COST OF LIVING in the last year so SSI benefits would remain the same.
You have got to be kidding me, right? Are we living on the same planet? Everything has increased, food, water, gas, electric...I'm waiting for them to figure out how to charge us for breathing. Let's hope they don't figure that one out. Geez.

| Because the new president decided to send out $250.00 stimulus money this past summer. Social Security recipients will not get a cost of living raise for two years. So unfair. | |
