I love Ice Skating - specifically Ice Dancing. I also like the downhill skiing, snowboarding and the jump.

This is part of the speech that John Furlong gave at the Opening Ceremonies.
I thought it was a lovely tribute to us all as we unite in our interest and support of our athletes.

..."The Olympic Flame has touched many millions and prompted spontaneous, peaceful celebration. Reminding us all that those values that unite and inspire the best in us we must never abandon. As the Olympic Cauldron is lit, the unique magic of the Olympic Games will be released upon us.

Magic so rare that it cannot be controlled by borders. The kind of magic that invades the human heart touching people of all cultures and beliefs. Magic that calls for the best that human beings have to offer. Magic that causes the athletes of the world to soar and the rest of us to dream."...

America took a few medals tonight, and the performances were nothing short of amazing!!!! Apollo Ono took silver in the men's 1500 meter short track and J.R. Celzski took bronze. Awesome race! In the women's moguls, Hannah Kearney took gold in a very impressive showing, and Shannon Barhke took bronze. Way to go!!! You make us proud!! In a sad note the Georgian team lost an athlete during practice training. He lost control of his sled and could not recover. Nodar Kumaritashvili lost his life in this accident. His team mate in this event, men's luge, pulled out of competition in shock. Changes have been made to the track to prevent other accidents. It was ruled human error, not the track. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family.

I should have put in the previous post that Apollo Ohno ties Bonnie Blair with 6 medals, the most for an Olympic Winter Games for an American athlere. This is his 6th career medal. He said that for him this was like coming full circle, as he began his career in Vancouver and now here he is again.

I love the figure skating as well. Pairs is really beautiful although I like the women's skating a lot, too. I found out that the Chinese couple took the gold medal for pairs figure skating, breaking the Russians' longtime streak.

I'm not a huge fan of ice dancing. There aren't jumps and such and I find it to be a little boring. 2010 Vancouver Olympics Icon_razz

The Russian pairs have always been good, but it's also good to see other countries doing well. I like figure skating as well, but prefer the women's to the pairs. I like watching the ski jumping, and the women's moguls was really cool!
